doppel hub 2019 (I)

We’re frequently asked whether we will expand our innovations festival. And that’s what we will do: Instead of one, the next hub.berlin offers two fully packed days of tech innovations, conference program and Berlin spirit.

All that happens during Berlin’s most beautiful season, as we go out of the cold winter and welcome you back again in spring on 10 and 11 April 2019.

November 2017: "What we would like to do is to bring the right people together".

Joan Clarke:

Joan Clarke’s ingenious work as a codebreaker during WW2 saved countless lives, and her talents were formidable enough to command the respect of some of the greatest minds of the 20th Century, despite the sexism of the time. To honor her essential work, her stage takes on the most disruptive innovations for the future of big data and AI.

John McCarty:

John McCarty was one of the fathers of Artificial Intelligence as we now it today. On this stage we honor his legacy and give the leading experts of AI the chance to discuss the trends and application of big data and AI across various industries.

John McCarthy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1927. He received a BS in mathematics from Caltech (1948) and a PhD, also in mathematics, from Princeton University (1951). McCarthy was a pioneer in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), computer science, and interactive computing systems.

Grace Murray Hopper:

Grace Murray Hopper (born December 9, 1906, New York, died January 1, 1992, Arlington Virginia) was a pioneer in developing computer technology. The stage, dedicated to her work showcases the application of big data and AI technologies for various industries.

After graduating from Vassar College (B.A., 1928), Hopper attended Yale University (M.A., 1930; Ph.D., 1934). She taught mathematics at Vassar before joining the Naval Reserve in 1943. She became a lieutenant and was assigned to the Bureau of Ordnance’s Computation Project at Harvard University(1944), where she worked on Mark I, the first large-scale automatic calculator and a precursor of electronic computers. She remained at Harvard as a civilian research fellow while maintaining her naval career as a reservist. After a moth infiltrated the circuits of Mark I, she coined the term bug to refer to unexplained computer failures.

Hari Seldon:

In his capacity as mathematics professor at Streeling University on the planet Trantor, Seldon develops psychohistory, an algorithmic science that allows him to predict the future in probabilistic terms. On the basis of his psychohistory he is able to predict the eventual fall of the Galactic Empire and to develop a means to shorten the millennia of chaos to follow. The significance of his discoveries lies behind his nickname "Raven" Seldon.

Of course Science Fiction and the creativity of fans around the globe was an integral part of AI advancement. The Hari Seldon Stage faces the impact on society and politics of AI and big data, showcases the most exciting use-cases, and discusses the latest trends for various industries.
