Welcome to the Management of Creative Industries (MCI) Master Studies HM 063 in the framework of the Culture and Creative Industries (CCI) here in Berlin - and worldwide! WS.

This first encounter will be a ’meet’n greet’ - event.

You will be invited to present:

To start this first day, we will have coffee and croissants for the early birds.

Programm Objectives
(4) Focus of the competence profile to be developed by the students shall be on the acquisition of professional knowledge specific to the degree programm and on the ability:
 to apply scientific methods and knowledge in their profession,
 to act cooperatively and to demonstrate constructive conflict behaviour,
 to intercultural and international communication and cooperation,
 to think critically and act responsibly based on liberal, democratic and social values, and
 to be intellectual independent, to make decisions, and to be solution- and transfer-orientated.

Master’s Degree Programm Objectives
(4) Upon successful completion of their course, graduates should:
 possess complex professional, methodological and social competences,
 be able to assume outstanding responsibility in a team,
 be able to integrate knowledge and deal with complex issues,
 independently acquire new knowledge and skills,
 be able to exchange ideas with expert representatives on a scientific level.

Types of Courses
(2) Courses will be varied according to their intended qualifications; they are interactive and practice-oriented. Classes can be held as lectures, seminars, exercises, tutorials, laboratories or excursions for example. [...]

General Examination Regulations
(3) The following examination methods are accepted for the integrated module examination at bbw Hochschule – University of Applied Sciences: written exam, written paper, paper and portfolio assessment.

(10) Following correction and grading, documentation of examination performances (protocols, written papers, assignments, examinations, portfolios, internship reports, practice reports, practice transfer reports/projects) is to be handed over to the examination management for safekeeping.
(11) Assessments of portfolios and major paper take place during the semester.

Written Papers
(1) By written papers, candidates should demonstrate their capability of producing short pieces of writing in accordance with a task set by the examiner. Written papers can comprise a variety of texts such as essays, summaries, abstracts, excerpts, thesis statements or case studies etc.
(2) Written papers should consist of at least 6 but no more than 10 pages. Deviations from this rule may be permitted in reasonable exceptional circumstances.
(3) Processing time for written papers is four to six weeks.

Portfolio Assessment
(1) The portfolio assessment is an accumulated examination method which is taken during the course of a semester and which offers the opportunity to combine different exam elements so that a variety of competences can be assessed. A portfolio may combine written elements (this list is not exhaustive) such as essays, reports, extracts, summaries, synopses, reviews and tests, with oral elements (this list is not exhaustive) such as talks, presentations, discussions, statements, or practical tasks (this list is not exhaustive) such as samples, models, model layouts and graphic designs. This examination method is suitable for digital implementation.

Housekeeping remarks

 The Portfolio Exams for this course will be divided at least into three parts. The first two parts will be on premises, part three is the final paper-delivery-date (Note: only PDF’s will be accepted).
> December 11th, 16th, 17th. (individual only): oral (+notes)
> January 6th, 13th, (individual/or group): presentation
> March 31st, (individual/or group): (written) paper.
Therefore, the final grade [3] will be split into at least 3 parts.

 The due date for any exam is the end of March 2023.

To understand and to verify the quality of this procedure,
on this first day, each of the participants presented her of his preferred (music-)video.All the videos selected are listed in the notes about the second day of this course..
All the students agreed to present their video and to speak about her or his choice. The results were so convincing that the following proposal was agreed:
Following and documenting our conversations, each student may write a twofold annotation to his choice dealing with these two questions:
 Why did I choose this video
 What is the hidden design-thinking message we have discovered this first day?
If these answers will be delivered by mail in the upcoming week before next Friday, December 16th, they will be quoted as annotations and regarded as a supplementary contribution to the Folio Exam.

To Do’s

On this day it was agreed, that - apart from the interventions of the lecturer — many other presentations and explanations of other qualified personnel will be integrated in this course by presenting a whole series of their videos on the third site on December 17h. There, each of the participants may pick up the video she or he likes / understands best.
The criteria for her or his choice should be based on these two questions:
 Why I preferred this video
 What is the most important design-thinking message for me, my ambitions, my work?
The answers to these two questions should be presented on this day, December 17th. The presentation itself will be part of the Folio Exam Schedule.
