BookPreview (BP): Carpe Diem!

 WS_2026-01-01

P.S.

Dear [...], “liebe Alle“ 😊

I do appreciate your interest in my work: the ambition to fulfil my obligations is stronger than ever.
Meanwhile, the MAKING-OF-STORY of this book is on its way to become a book in its own right.

I’ll condense these stories in these 10 headlines and links:

1. On the occasion of my birthday, September 19th, the Catholic New Agency KNA published this feature
https://www.daybyday.press/article9286.html : The impact is evident: publish before you perish.

2. Because time is becoming even more precious, I decided to stop the daily work as news editor-in-chief for my online publication DaybyDay ISSN 1860-2967 https://www.daybyday.press/ reporting as I did for more than 20 years at the end of this year: https://www.daybyday.press/article9220.html

3. Because the publication has gained such a high credibility and readership number (T1 to T10 p.d.), from January 2026 on I will dedicate the site into a Making-Of-Portal for this book. It will re-present many snippets of text that have been published or written before, testing many new Ideas. For instance, to propose tiny intermissions between chapters about the role of typewrites in the musical framework, as a hidden reference to my mother, a well-known musician: Kaete van Tricht . Here is as first preview of this collection: https://www.daybyday.press/article9289.html .

4. Now it’s not only the question of how the version for a German-speaking audience will differ from the one for an UK-/US-/non-native reading English audience. It is not only, how the print-version of the book will differ from the electronic-edition. It is not only the discussion about how to use annotations, annexes, supplementary sources, and so on. Since I started writing the book, it became clear that the invasion of AI seems to turn many traditional practices upside down.

5. I was fairly ready to cope with these challenges; I enjoyed the privilege of having experts with me since the beginning like Weizenbaum: https://www.daybyday.press/article9021.html | https://www.daybyday.press/article8177.html
and Wahlster: https://www.daybyday.press/article5608.html | https://www.daybyday.press/article8557.html .

6. But despite all this, my first version was still designed in a ‘traditional’ manner, like a bold scientific publication.
All this will chance: I will use speech-to-text-solutions, but no LLMs. This sounds simple, but the research is tricky; https://www.daybyday.press/article9318.html . The chapters will be shorter and have a different kind of wording, but they will not neglect the scientific imperative. All the intellectual side-paths will not be condemned but stored in an extra cloud-based compendium, fostering Three-Dimensional Thinking.

7. Perspectives:

7.1. My career as a long-time lecturer, consultant, and keynote speaker will be merged with the experience of a long-time journalist and editor-in-chief
7.2. From January 2026 on, writing the book will be the only full-time occupation. All the other events and invites will be declined. Here is an example of the first half of September 2025: https://www.daybyday.press/article9287.html .
7.3. At the end of each month, you will find the published daily-progress reports as well as a wrap-up for the internal discussion
7.4. I have to continue my daily practice and hospital-visits to secure my health as best as I can, but no further holidays[Dr.
7.5. The jobs in the US may be declined; there will be no more tipple-I-visa: https://www.daybyday.press/article9270.html
7.6. This means the first edition of the book will be a handmade edition in my beloved German language. The German head of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, Dorothee Baer, is willing to write the preface.
7.7. If the negotiations with the Thomas Mann House in LA or my colleagues at Stanford, CA, are successful, the English version may be conceived in the US. If not, I have found one of the most qualified translators; she already transcribed my preface to the Handbook of Media and Communication Economics “Lectures for Digital Residents[…]”.

8. The good news is that my Interviews, starting with Wim Wenders in 2008 https://www.daybyday.press/article9229.html have gained more and more value – and public interest. The discussions about our future in an AI-framework has even fostered perspectives of upcoming challenges, and I’m happy not only to contribute to this debate but to provide some landmarks with my friends and colleagues: https://www.daybyday.press/article9340.html

9. Since the launch of Sora2 in the audiovisual context https://www.daybyday.press/article9327.html all of our wording has to be verified as well. The first design of a German post digital ABC was drafted on December 18th 2023: https://www.daybyday.press/article8530.html . Even at that moment, claims for Security (“Sicherheit”) by Putin or Truth (“Wahrheit”) by Trump were abandoned as political buzzwords. But our more than 500 interviews generated a new framework, from “Authentizität” up to “Wahrhaftigkeit”.

10. This is a good moment to say thank you for all your contributions so far, pushing me forward and never giving up on the hope of my potential performance.

Best, back in Berlin, on November 9th:

[sign.] Wolf Siegert

Thank you for sharing these detailed updates and for outlining the next steps in your project. Your organized approach and clear goals are remarkable, and it’s intriguing to see how you’re addressing these challenges.
